Invest in Your Love of Teaching

Back to school can be exciting for both students and teachers! Everyone is re-energized and ready to take on the school year. Teachers have new ideas and can’t wait to share them with their students. It is exciting to be working with a new group of students who will all have unique skills to bring to the table. As teachers, we are always learning and adapting with the changes that come with each new year. Post-pandemic – it’s a great year to fall in love with teaching all over again. Take the time to invest in yourself and your love of teaching.

1. The Demand for Teachers is Special

Whether you taught in person, online, or a blend of the two, this year showed us that learning in person among a group of peers has many benefits. This year, we have the chance to be back in the class doing what we do best – teaching in person. Spend the year doing activities both you and your students missed dearly. Allow them to collaborate and share as much as possible. Guide them through their year while allowing them to show you their skills. They missed the classroom and their peers. This is your change to fall in love with teaching all over again.

2. Challenge Yourself and Your Students

Adjusting to the classroom may come with some challenges. Students and staff will be readjusting to classroom rules and routines. Re-learning how to live amongst one another may be difficult, but great! Allow yourself and students to enjoy the process. Be patient, and enjoy each new challenge as we get back to normal. Once routines are re-established, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself to try a new lesson. Challenge your students to explore new skills and new ways of learning. Challenge yourself and your students to think outside the box. After all, we saw how resilient kids are this year as they adapted to the many changes that came their way!

3. Find your passion

There are many avenues to explore as a teacher. This year, find something that you are excited about and become an expert. Share your passion with your students and encourage them to find something they love too! Having a true interest is the best way to become immersed in it. The more you learn, the more you’ll have to share. You may become an expert in your school that colleagues can count on for support. Your knowledge will naturally spread throughout your school. It may even inspire others to pursue their passions.

With the new school year comes new things to learn and new ways to teach. As a teacher, you’ll be teaching new students who all have their own skills and talents. Remember to invest in yourself and your love for teaching this year, and you’ll love everything this year has to offer!
